It was only a few days before, I was surprised and shocked about how our norms towards ‘Gender-Equality’ grew, It all began from ‘suffrage’ (the right to vote in political elections). I suppose. We are nearly two centuries from the date when women made strikes and suffered to vote in general elections and here we are asking for equality in emotions.
‘Suffrage-Movement’ is clearly hailed as the first wave of Feminism when a long untold battle took place. It was only then, the feminine gender realized they were deprived of opportunities to choose who rules their nation and called for rallies.
It is clear that behind every equal right and opportunity in which we thrive today there are a number of women and a few men who protested and fussed for their rights against those who clearly enjoyed suppressing the so-called weaker gender. And to those people, we people(women) of the present generation are invisibly sending our gratitude by doing our part best.
But the sad thing is that there is yet a lot more to be changed, to be reformed to make life even better than it was, for the yet to come generations so they don’t know what ‘gender-inequality’ means. ( I know a few of the lines I mentioned above sounded as if it was extracted from a ‘civics’ book, ain’t it? but it’s not and I felt it was important to commemorate those responsible for the easiness of our lives.)
Where and How do we start? Emotions? teachings?
in schools? in houses? in society?
I would rather say everywhere and anywhere. Men and Women must be identified with their own blessed abilities and be appreciated on what they are capable of and neither is better than the other. It must be insisted that both a brother and a sister must feel free to cry, must feel free to be strong, and must feel comfortable in letting their emotions out, and most importantly anyone can escort the other.
Begin. Shall we?
